Board Certified Professional Counselor

Marie works with clients one on one, with couples, and in group settings. She works with a variety of issues to help people improve their mental health and progress their overall wellbeing.

Board Certified Supervisor for Licensed Professional Counselors

Marie supervises, guides, and teaches new therapists in their required training to become certified as licensed professional counselors. Supervision can be done one on one or in a group session format. Marie guides supervisees through difficult cases, and helps them work towards developing their own practice specialization.

National Board Certified Counselor

A voluntarily distinction, being an NBCC means that Marie meets high national standards for the practice of counseling. Those standards include demonstrating a mastery of counseling knowledge and skills by completing a graduate degree from a regionally accredited or Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP) counseling program, passing a rigorous national examination, the documentation of work experience and supervision requirements, and subscribing to the highest ethical and practice standards.

Certified EMDR Therapist

In order for a clinician to become certified in EMDR, she must be licensed mental health professional with a minimum of 2 years of experience, complete an EMDRIA approved EMDR therapy training program, conduct a minimum of 50 clinical sessions, and receive at least 20 hours of consultation, and complete a minimum of 12 hours every two years to stay up to date about the most recent practices of EMDR. Marie has met all of these requirements for the last several years, and in addition, has furthered her knowledge and teaching of EMDR by becoming a Certified EMDR Consultant.

Certified EMDR Consultant

As a Certified EMDR Consultant, Marie is accredited to train and guide newly-trained EMDR therapists through the complexities of this modality so that they can provide an uppermost level of care for their clients. While providing direction and supervision to her supervisees, Marie continues to further her own knowledge of new developments in the field by attending trainings, workshops, and conferences in order to maintain continued requirements for her Consultant status.

Marie completed the Onsite Experiential Psychodrama training in order to have the tools to offer her clients additional intervention options while she supports them on their path to finding their true potential. Utilizing Experiential Psychodrama in therapy can yield many advantages, such as to help clients connect to themselves and others, to motivate clients and help them move through denial towards progress in sessions, to help build group cohesion, to address and resolve conflicts in a group setting (isolation, cliques), to help to manage transference and countertransference and to motivate clients to become more aware of/connected to their bodies during therapy.

Marie Rothman is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), LPC Board Approved Supervisor, and EMDRIA Approved Consultant in EMDR with over 25 years of experience as a mental health provider. Ms. Rothman has maintained a private practice, The Wellness Institute, in Jackson, MS since 1997. Marie specializes in working with individuals, couples, and families experiencing difficulties related to PTSD, Eating Disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia, Compulsive Overeating, Purging, Restricting), and Chemical Dependency. As a solution-focused therapist, Marie’s goal is to inspire and create possibilities, help people uncover their true potential, and to assist people in leading a life that is worth celebrating. While no one can change difficult situations of the past, Marie feels energized when she works together with her clients to help them better understand and resolve challenges in their lives. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, Marie and her clients unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding them back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Outside of her truly gratifying work with clients, Marie enjoys spending time with horses, doing yoga, and in spiritual mediation.
