PeaceCOMES FROM WITHIN

Addiction and Recovery

There are many types of addictions: drug and alcohol, food, sex, and gambling, just to name a few. People experiencing addictions can experience daily disruption in their mood and behavior, such as difficulty with increasing irritability, thinking clearly, memory, managing emotions, sleeping restfully and extreme fatigue.

Drug addiction or chemical dependency is defined as the physical and psychological craving or urge to use a mood-altering substance (alcohol or other substances). Addictions often negatively impact physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Because of the far-reaching impact of substance use (as well as with other addictions), it is of the utmost importance to hold an overall view of treatment and health-not just placing all focus on the substances themselves- while in treatment.

Marie specializes in serving clients who are coping with addiction issues related to substance abuse, alcohol use, eating disorders, and bariatric care.  As part of Marie’s therapeutic work with her clients, she helps clients in recovery understand how change, chronic stress, relationship discord, co-dependent behaviors and work-related stress can trigger thoughts, emotions and behaviors, that if left unaddressed, can lead to relapse. Another area of attention when treating addiction and maintaining recovery is addressing internal and external stressors. These stressors can become barriers to full recovery if not identified, managed, and resolved. Marie and her clients explore these past, current, and future stressors in a safe and effective way in order to provide clients with tools and skills needed to manage these and new stressors.

Recovery requires commitment to treatment, willingness to grow, and trust in the process. Marie is trained and experienced in guiding people through the process of exploring their issues, overcoming their addictions, and walking in recovery.
